realife Learning privacy policy

We're a small social enterprise and we don't have any interest in gathering information we don't need. At the same time, we use a hosted website platform that does collect some data as a standard part of how it operates - and it is both our legal duty and the right thing to do to inform you. This privacy policy just refers to our website and contact through the website. In terms of how we protect data, privacy and safeguard individuals throughout our work we have extensive measures, processes and policies in place.

 

Who we are

realife Learning is a dual-registered social enterprise (realife Learning Ltd in the UK and realife Learning Africa NPC in South Africa).

Our website is hosted and built on the Wix platform at realifelearning.org. When you visit, both realife Learning and Wix may process some data about your visit.

 

What data this website collects

Visitor analytics: We use Wix's built-in analytics to understand how our website is used. This includes data such as how many people visit, which pages they view, roughly where in the world visitors are located (country and region level), what kind of device and browser they're using, and how they arrived at our site. We use this to understand whether our website is working well and reaching the people we hope to reach. This data is aggregated — we don't use it to identify or track individuals.

Contact form submissions: If you contact us through a form on the site, we receive your name, email address, and whatever you write in your message. We use this only to respond to you, and we don't add you to any mailing list without asking.

Wix platform data

Because this site is built on Wix, Wix also collects data as part of running and securing the platform. This includes technical information like IP addresses, browser type, and session data. Wix processes this as our data processor, under their own data processing terms. You can read Wix's privacy policy at wix.com/about/privacy.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. All cookies on this site are set by Wix as part of running the platform — we don't add any of our own beyond what Wix places automatically. None are used for advertising or third-party tracking.

 

The cookies this site uses are:

• svSession — set by Wix to identify unique visitors and maintain your session while you browse the site. Lasts around 13 months.

• _wixAB3 — set by Wix at the start of a session. Collects basic information about website traffic, visit duration, and visitor location. Lasts 6 months. This is the cookie that supports the aggregated analytics we describe above.

• XSRF-TOKEN — a security cookie that protects against cross-site request forgery attacks. Session only.

• hs — a Wix platform security cookie. Session only.

• bSession — used by Wix for load balancing to keep the site running smoothly. Lasts 1 hour.

• ssr-caching — a technical cookie set by Wix that records how a page was rendered. Lasts less than a minute.

• consent-policy — stores your cookie consent preferences so you're not asked again on every visit. Lasts 1 year.

• client-session-bind and server-session-bind — technical cookies that manage your connection to the site during a session.

• ucData, ucString, fedops.logger.ses, mpaSessionId, wix-motion-played-animations — background technical cookies used by Wix for site rendering, performance logging, and interface behaviour. None store personal information in an identifiable form.

Why we collect this information

We rely on the following legal bases under GDPR and POPIA:

• Consent — for analytics cookies, where you choose to accept them via our cookie banner.

• Legitimate interests — for basic technical data needed to run a secure, functioning website, and for understanding broad patterns of how our site is used.

• Contract / responding to you — for contact form data, where you've reached out and need a reply.

How long we keep data

Analytics data is aggregated and not tied to individuals — we don't set a specific deletion date for summary statistics. Contact form messages are held for as long as the correspondence is relevant, and we aim to clear old enquiries within 12 months if no ongoing relationship has developed.

Wix retains platform-level data according to their own retention policies, which you can review in their privacy documentation.

Who the data is shared with

We do not sell or trade personal data. The only third parties involved are:

• Wix — our website platform and hosting provider, acting as our data processor.

• Google Workspace — we use Google's tools for email and internal collaboration. Messages you send us may be stored there.

We may be required to share data with authorities where legally obliged. We would notify you first where that's permitted.

Where your data is stored

realife Learning operates between the UK and South Africa. Wix infrastructure is primarily based in the US and EU. Google Workspace data may be stored across multiple regions. We've taken reasonable steps to ensure appropriate data protection agreements are in place with both providers.

If you are in the EU or UK, transfers of data outside those regions are covered by appropriate safeguards (standard contractual clauses). If you are in South Africa, we apply POPIA-compatible practices to data handling.

Your rights

Depending on where you are based, you may have the right to:

• Access personal information we hold about you

• Have inaccurate information corrected

• Ask for information to be deleted (where we have no legal reason to keep it)

• Object to or restrict certain processing

• Withdraw consent for analytics cookies at any time via the cookie settings on this site

• Lodge a complaint — in the EU/UK with your national data protection authority or the ICO; in South Africa with the Information Regulator

If we make significant changes to how we handle data, we'll update this page with a new date. Our approach is intentionally simple, so we don't anticipate frequent changes.
